(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Ok guys im going to start becoming known on these forums and there's only one way to do it and gather some rep. Making some guide's, so for my first guide were going to learn how to make windows xp look nearly exactly the same as windows 7.

Ok so here what were going for.

You must login or register to view this content.

This is the default windows 7 background.

You must login or register to view this content.

So as you can see if i had the blue win7 theme on it would be almost exactly the same.

If you haven't already you will need to patch the UXtheme.dll by following these instructions.

For XP Service Pack 3 Users - You must login or register to view this content.
For XP Service Pack 2 Users - You must login or register to view this content.

Ok first off were going to need the theme for the base look of windows 7. You can easily do this by downloading the theme here.

You must login or register to view this content.

This is the blue version. download here. : You must login or register to view this content.

Or if you want the black version like mine.

You must login or register to view this content.

Then download it here : You must login or register to view this content.

Once downloaded your chosen colour and you have a patched UXtheme.dll follow the instructions below to install the theme.

    1. Once you download the ZIP file, extract it. You'll get a folder "SevenVG RTM Theme for Windows XP by Vishal Gupta".

2. In this folder, you'll get 5 more folders:

* Extra Common Tasks (This folder contains 2 extra shell styles: Bottom and Left dark blue.)
* Fonts (This folder contains Segoe UI fonts required for the theme. Run Fonts.exe file to install them.)
* Iconized Taskbar Hack (This folder contains registry script to enable Iconized taskbar in Windows XP.)
* Styler Toolbar (This folder contains "Styler" setup file and "SevenVG RTM" Styler skin. You can apply it to get Windows 7 look-like commandbar in Windows XP Explorer.)
* Theme (This folder contains the main theme. Run Theme.exe file to install it.)

3. Run "Theme.exe" file present in "Theme" folder and apply the theme using Desktop Properties.

Now for the icons.

There's a great programme called iconpackager which edits all the icons for you without any manual labour needed!. GREAT.

Download iconpackager here : You must login or register to view this content.

Once iconpackager has downloaded install the icons with the link below.

You must login or register to view this content.

Follow these instructions if you don't know how to add the icons to iconpackager.

Boot screen.

Windows 7 contains a new animated boot screen which shows animated items/balls that come together to form Windows logo.

You can get a similar boot screen in Windows XP:

Login screen

Windows 7 login screen looks similar to Vista login screen except the new background image and the text displayed at bottom.

You must login or register to view this content.
You must login or register to view this content.

Follow these instructions if you dont know what to do.

Now extract the RAR file using WinRAR or 7-zip and you'll get "LogonUI.exe" file. That's the file which contains the login screen. You'll need to replace existing "logonui.exe" file present in "%windir%\System32" folder with this downloaded one. Once done that restart and it should work. I WILL SAY NOW PEOPLE RUNNING SERVER PACK 3 XP YOU CANNOT CHANGE THE LOGIN SCREEN.

Taskbar

Windows 7 taskbar has been highly redesigned. It doesn't show opened program's name in their taskbar buttons, instead it only shows their icons. Also the taskbar buttons are a bit large in their size.

You must login or register to view this content.

Windows 7 taskbar also allows you to move taskbar buttons to change their positions, you can get the same feature in Windows XP by using "Taskbar Shuffle" utility:

And if you want to get the small "Show Desktop" rectangle at the end of Taskbar just like Windows 7, then download here. :

Few little finish up's

Windows 7 provides 3 new features which are called "Aero Shake", "Aero Snap" and "Aero Peek".

"Aero Shake" is quite useful. Suppose you have more than one windows opened and you want to minimize all other windows except the window which you are working on, then you have to simply shake the current window with your mouse and all other windows will be minimized automatically. Shake it again and all minimized windows will be maximized again.

Using "Aero Snap", you can minimize, maximize, resize windows by just dragging-dropping them to the screen corners.

"Aero Peek" has replaced the old "Show Desktop" feature in Windows 7. It can be found as a small rectangle present at last in Windows 7 taskbar. When you hover the mouse cursor over it, it allows you to peek behind all open windows by hiding all windows and showing only outlines of all windows.

There are several 3rd party software available to provide these features in Windows XP. Some of them are AquaSnap, AeroSnap, AeroShake, There are many more but these are the ones i have tested and they work.

AquaSnap - You must login or register to view this content.

AeroSnap - You must login or register to view this content.

AeroShake - You must login or register to view this content.

There is a very easy way to get the start menu on xp to look almost like windows 7. There is a 3rd party programme called Vistart easy to install and works everytime on startup. Here's what it will look like.

Even better look

Windows 7 explorer is quite similar to Vista and shows the same small horizontal progress bar under each drive icon for the drive space.

You must login or register to view this content.

You can also get the same in XP by using a 3rd party utility:

Startup programmes

Many of these programmes i have talked about require you to actually double click them for it to take action. But NO i have found a way, well not found but i looked for a way to automatically start them when i found you could run a programme on startup Follow the instructions below to find out how it's done. On some of the programmes if you right click them in the taskbar and click options some have the option to run on startup check that off and it should work.

Go to Start > All programmes > Startup > right click open > drag the shotcut of the programme into the folder and then on startup that programme will start.
