(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Well, I wanted to start learning Java through books only because where I live; there are no classes of such offered for 20 miles. I have a few books picked out, but they're just a little more advanced, I need a book made completely for beginners that will explain and go into depth with things I need to learn before I continue on to the other books, such as Packages, Classes, Statements, Methods and so on.

I had one book in mind "Java Programming for the Absolute Beginner"
-Only problem is: I can't find a torrent/PDF for it and I'm not too sure if it's a good book to start with? if it is infact a great beginners book, I'll spend the money, but if there are better choices out there in which I can torrent, that'd be greatly preferred.

Any Advice, Suggestions, or Help would be much appreciated!

Well, if I was you, I'd check out You must login or register to view this content.. They're video tutorials, they start off very basic, and are easy to follow along, they also engage you and have you actively write code.

If that doesn't work for you (but trust me, it'll work for you) I would highly recommend any of O'reilly' s Java books, they're all great, and he has a few pretty basic ones. If neither of those work for you, then let me know and I'll get you the book you mentioned...

If you are still having trouble finding a PDF try searching torrent sites maybe? All the best,

Yeah, TheNewBoston is great (wish he was around when I was learning). I pretty much learned programming solely from O'reilly books, so I had to vouch for those too, but TheNewBoston has the benefit of being a great teacher, and its free.

Again, if it doesn't work for you, don't hesitate to let me know. I'm also always available for specific programming questions, Java or otherwise.

Yeah, I've actually heard of him helping tons of college students get through their courses. Thanks for the help, I appreciate it.

At the risk of whoring out my own service too much, I have a website that is devoted to the topic of teaching java programming. It's taught as a hybrid video course with text based reinforcement after each video. It'll have programming challenges and bughunts added as I progress in the creation of the website.

I have a lot of java experience, I'm a 3rd year programming (Comp Sci - programming, OOP focus) student, who has been programming in java for about 4 years now. I am familiar with most of the major data structures, methods, and necessary imports used in basic java. It's a pretty simple language in contrast to C++, which starts off slightly easier but has a much harder learning curve as you progress.
