(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); My college will be providing me with a free Rasberry Pi soon. I know that it can be used to program stuff such as robots or what not. But what else can I use it for? Would I be able to install other Linux based OS's on top of it such as You must login or register to view this content. ? and if anybody has one are they good to use, or only meant to be used for educational purposes? Because I can literally sell it if I cannot find any other use for it.

Well I do actually own one. It's what it is, a $25 - 35 computer. I've seen homemade arcades made out of them. Emulation handhelds made from them. A general handheld computer with the ability to write code to chips. If you know some basic electronics you could do alot with them. Even if you dont there are other addon boards that you can get to allow it to do more.

At Home I have two Raspberry Pis and for your question of can you install other Linux OS. No, You can only install a special version Debian made specifically for Raspberry Pis. You will need to use a SD Card for your system memory and your OS will be installed on the SD Card.
