(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Okay so I need help. Recently my Dad smashed his computer and I salvaged all the parts I could including the HDD. Anyways I wanna format it and put it on my PS3. So here is the problem. I tried putting the HDD on my laptop which is the exact same model. I get an error every time. The error is "a disk read error occurred. Press CTRL+ALT+DEL to restart." Anyways I am just trying to load it up so I can format it and change it to FAT32.

are you trying to connect it via usb or did you actually remove your laptop hd and replace it with the other one? Sorry your post isn't very clear. Anyway, you need to connect it via usb which might require an adapter. Then you can format it.

When your dad damaged his laptop he might have cracked the plates inside the HDD. Or you can insert a linux disc and run the Live-Disc and format it.

you cant remove your laptop hd and just stick in the other one because your os and everything your laptop needs to run is on that hd. You need to connect the hd you want to format with a usb adapter and then you can format it through disk management.
