You mean you want to erase the disk then you can use DBAN, if you mean you want to restore back to factory settings then at boot hit ALT + F10 simultaneously that should take you to the recovery unless you have removed it or dont have one. If this does not work you will need to download a copy of your os and use your product key found on the back of your laptop to activate. If he used Dban then thats why he has no OS, e just needs to re-install.

Ok you have wiped your HDD , so you need to download a iso of your OS and burn to disc or USB and boot up and install using your product key on the bottom of your laptop.
