(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); My computer is fairly old but about a year ago my computer started overheating and shutting down every 20 min or so. I also have a problem that many programs on my computer no longer run properly. For example skype, visual studio, u torrent and many others when opened just freeze and stop responding. Iv tried re-installing programs countless times but nothing seems to work
I have searched everywhere on the internet but all I could find is that my CPU needs a new layer of thermal paste.

All help and advice is much appreciated, I hope I made sense.

New layer? Probably not. Have you actually just taken your PC apart and cleaned it? Thermal paste might help but you don't layer it on.

Superman.
Is it a bird? ... Is it a plane?
1. buy a new aftermarket heatsink
2. clean out your case
3. run a virus scan using Malware Bytes

Thermal paste will need to be re-applied from time to time. You'll need some isopropyl alcohol and a clean micro fibre cloth to wipe away the old paste off the heatsink and the cpu.
