AMD is getting rid of the ATI Technologies name, after merging with the company back in July, 2006.

The company announced a merger with ATI about four years ago, spending $5,400,000,000 to gain the lead in the chip market. Although the company itself was renamed to 'AMD Graphics Product Group', they kept the ATI brand name, and it remained popular amongst PC Gamers and tech-enthusiasts.

Now, after years of being one of the top computer-chip companies, AMD now feels that costumers are familiar enough with the Advanced Micro Devices name. So, in order to promote it's newest products, and raise awareness of its less popular brands, AMD has decided to cut ATI out of development.

After surveying thousands of people world-wide, they've come to the conclusion that when AMD and ATI merged, the preference for the brand tripled. Also, the brand's name became stronger than it's competitor's, and the number of people aware of the existence of the Radeon and FirePro brand has become very high.

All three points prove that the ATI brand name is no longer needed to drive customers to use AMD, even when facing rivals such as Nvidia.
It also proves that Radeon and FirePro do not need to be marketed as an ATI brand, they will do well on their own.

The switch to the AMD name will start this year, but only for new products. Existing products will, of course, keep the ATI name.

Ive been Intel and Nvidia forever...why?....Intel, bigger bang for your buck, Nvidia, stable fps for better gameplay.

ATI...they all suck....the 5870 runs hotter and is less stable than the 480, that should tell you something

Meh, three things I avoid:

Intel
Dell/Alienware
and Mac.

Overpriced. You could get a five-times greater custom for about 3/4s of the price of a Mac, Dell, Intel-based system, etc.

I'm an NVIDIA/AMD person.
