How to Increase Computer Performance

You must login or register to view this content.

I've made several threads with free spyware, programs and etc, that help your computer out. Now I have decided to make one big detailed thread on how to clean up your computer and make it run smoother. This is by far my best/most detailed tutorial thread. Plenty of pictures/screen shots, and easy to understand instructions Smile

I started this thread at 6:36 PM, let's see how long it takes :p

EDIT: I finished this at 9:24 PM @_@

Having a bunch of pointless files all over your computer is a waste of memory and can slow down your computer. Let's get rid of all those right now!

First off download this program:

You must login or register to view this content.

Download it here:

     https://download.cnet.com/ccleaner/

Next your going to run CCleaner. Now check off all the things you want/don't want it to scan. Finally click "Run Cleaner".

You must login or register to view this content.

Now that you've cleaned up some memory, click on the "Registry" tab, then "Scan for Issues".

You must login or register to view this content.

Then after it has scanned just select "Fixed Selected Issues" and "Fix All Selected Issues".

You must login or register to view this content.

Now we'll do the Windows Disk Cleanup, just in case CCleaner missed anything.

Click on the start menu and navigate to: All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/Disk Cleanup

You must login or register to view this content.

Now run it and select the drives you use to clean up.

You must login or register to view this content.

When it finishes analyzing just click "OK", then "Delete Files".

Now you've deleted a bunch of unnecessary files and cleared up memory Smile

Disk Defragmenting basically rearranges/organizes files on your hard drive for quicker access, thus increasing your system's performance.

Click on the start menu and navigate to All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/Disk Defragmenter

You must login or register to view this content.

Now click "Defragment Disk".

Any viruses or malware can slow down your computer and prevent it from reaching it's full capabilities.

First go and download RKILL. What RKILL does is, kills known processes that stop the use of normal anti-malware applications.

Download it here:

    https://download.cnet.com/RKill/3000-8022_4-11464676.html

Now run the program, it should look like this:

You must login or register to view this content.

When it finishes a log will pop up showing some infected items. My suggestion, is to go and delete them.

Okay so now we've ran RKILL and stopped it from denying us the use of normal anti-malware applications, we're going to download a powerful virus scanner called Malwarebytes.

Download it here:
     https://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html

Now just simply run the program and click "Perform Full Scan".

You must login or register to view this content.

Now just check your drives to scan.

You must login or register to view this content.

When the scan is done remove all infected files, if your computer had no viruses than that's good and this message should pop up!

You must login or register to view this content.

Now your computer should hopefully be virus free Smile

TIP: Get a full version of an antivirus to prevent any harmful malware getting on your computer.

My recommendations for a FULL antivirus are:

Regular PC maintenance and increased performance. This program will clean up and remove unnecessary files, fix errors, make your computer smoother and so forth.

Since it is only a 15 day trial I will show you a tutorial on how to get it for free with serial keys Smile

First go and download Trial:

     https://www.tune-up.com/download/

Once you finish installing, run the program once then close out. Now start the program again. It should say something about a 15 day trial.

On the bottom right, click "Product Registration" and DON'T put your name or organization.

You must login or register to view this content.

Now here is a big list of serial keys you can use. NOTE: IF YOU COPY AND PASTE IT INTO THE BOX, THE LAST NUMBER WILL BE REPLACED WITH AN "-" SO JUST TYPE THAT LAST DIGIT AFTERWARDS!

Thank you MrTonii95 for serials!

You should now have the full version of TuneUp Utilities 2011. But you're not done yet! Usually within a week, the program finds out you have a glitched serial key so now we're going to fix that Winky Winky.

Go to Control Panel\System and Security\Windows Firewall and click On "Advanced Settings">"Outbound Rules">"New Rule>"Program"

Click On "Browse" and find the programs .EXE then select "Block The Connection"

Now select "Domain","Private", and "Public"

Type in whatever you want for "Program Name" and then you're finished and Tuneup will no longer do serial checks Winky Winky

Special thanks to SueMeSony for the serial checker block Smile

Now that you have the program just explore for yourself! There's way too much you can do in it for me to explain here! Just run both the shortcuts it provides and use its abilities Smile

Now click enable and the following message should come up!

  • Having many files can not slow down your computer, neither do files use physical memory to be stored. With a lot of files the display of them could be slower (like if you have 5000 files, not all the icons are going to appear immediately)
  • Having virus protection will slow down your computer...
  • You never suggest ending tasks which are occupying physical memory, a machine's virtual memory does not effect performance

Are you ****ing kidding meh?? RAM does affect a computers performace, especially when you're gaming you tardass! Yes, virus protection will slow-down your performance but not by much if you have say MSE. And for the first one, did you EVER notice when you kept piling and piling shit on Vista it does made it slower, and slower?! But, XP didnt do that, if you downloaded 1,000,000 programs and stored them on XP.....it wouldnt lag or slow down AT ALL. Just saying that because mostly everyone knows if your into computers a lot. Ive been into computers&technology since i was 9 and now im 15 going to college for computer science and shit. I know A LOT about computers, PC especially because Apple can suck my monster cock for making such a shitty OS.

DO NOT GET AVG!!! Virusus are prone to attach themselves to it! Instead, get MSE (Microsoft Security Essentials) Its completely free with real-time protection and auto-updates. VERY lightweight too for you gamers out there. You must login or register to view this content.

Do a barrel roll!
I recently purchased my first PC with a SSD in it. I read somewhere that the SSD's should be maintained to keep up performance, can someone enlighten me further?
