If your like me, then your probably always messing about on the computer, ticking boxes which you dont understand, just to see what happens :p

Well, as I was playing around on my new Win7 computer, I decided I would have a go at partioning my HDD.
Turns out my computer didn't like it, and I was left with a bootmgr error :(

After searching the web, I found several threads which explained how to fix, but there was no real tutorial, so I decided to make my own...

The problem is, with Windows 7, the installation media serves more than one purpose. It's not just a way to get Windows installed, it's also the only way of recovering a borked installation. The Windows 7 DVD has a complete "recovery center" that provides you with the option of recovering your system via automated recovery (searches for problems and attempts to fix them automatically), rolling-back to a system restore point, recovering a full PC backup, or accessing a command-line recovery console for advanced recovery purposes....

Step 1

First of all, your going to want to download the appropriate .torrent file to match the win7 you have installed [Links at the bottom]

Step 2

Open the .torrent file you downloaded with µTorrent.

Step 3

After its download, Burn the .iso file that µTorrent downloaded to a CD

Step 4

When you want to use the recovery center, put the CD in your drive and boot from it. This is usually done by pressing F8 at startup, or changing the boot drive order in the BIOS.

Step 5

Now heres the cruical part, after you have booted the Repair CD, open a Command line and type this to set the correct Windows 7 partition again

DISKPART
LIST DISK
SELECT DISK [replace this with the harddrive number that windows is installed on as seen eariler ( eg; 1 ) ]
LIST PARTITION
SELECT PARTITION [replace this with the partition number that windows 7 is installed on ( using the information you saw when you typed in the list partition ) ]
ACTIVE
EXIT

This may or may not start it up, if it does not you will need to reboot the Repair CD to run Startup Repair up to 3 separate times with reboots to repair or rewrite the MBR.
