I've got a western digital 500GB passport and it's good, USB powered though. 1TB is about £90, $140. I would recommend it. + It Looks really good.

I don't see any reason why you wouldn't be able too, as long as it's FAT 32 because PS3 Doesn't recognize NTFS as far as i'm aware. I'll give it a go tomorrow and tell you.
