(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Not sure if this is the right section, but i'm sure you'll forgive me. My laptop runs 7 ultimate x64. Is any version of linux faster, better, in any way? I'm on the fence right now I want something new but not something worse than I have. I occasionally play games like w@w. Nothing hardcore just zombies so.... which is better for gaming, performance, ect. I guess what I want to know is Linux better? I don't even know what most this shit is:

Ada,
C,
C++,
Java,
Fortran.
Intel C++ Compiler,
Sun Studio,
IBM XL C/C++ Compiler.
Gambas,
FreeBASIC,
and XBasic.
Also supports:
PHP,
Perl,
Ruby,
Python
and other dynamic languages.

Thank you Hawk^^

So tell me what I should do. Thanks Smile Btw Does it look better than 7? Cause I want something that looks better.

If youre going to be gaming, stay on windows. Linux can be faster, but there isnt much of a difference. Personally, I find Linux more convenient and simplistic to use, but sometimes the lack of compatibility can be annoying. It does definitely look better than WIN7 though, as long as you get the right stuff. On Linux gaming can be a pain in the a** because games are made for windows, and setting them up on Linux can take quite some time and effort. However, if you decide to go with Linux, I would recommend Ubuntu 10.10, DONT BOTHER GETTING ANYTHING NEWER. on the more recent distro's they've changed the interface and workspace switching, as well as the launcher panel. It is a complete waste and makes it an annoying pain in the a**. But. I prefer linux over windows, but your best bet would be to spend some of your time to set up a dual-boot.

You can go back to Gnome, and get rid of Unity. Just change session to "Ubuntu Classic" at the login screen that gets rid of that crappy new look.

You can also install completely different desktop environments and use them also;

e.g.

LXDE
XFCE
KDE

etc, not just gnome/unity that it has by default
