However, if you decide to go with Linux, I would recommend Ubuntu 10.10, DONT BOTHER GETTING ANYTHING NEWER. on the more recent distro's they've changed the interface and workspace switching, as well as the launcher panel. It is a complete waste and makes it an annoying pain in the a**. But. I prefer linux over windows, but your best bet would be to spend some of your time to set up a dual-boot.
You can go back to Gnome, and get rid of Unity. Just change session to "Ubuntu Classic" at the login screen that gets rid of that crappy new look.
