Post: Intel vs AMD

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); I'm going to be buying my first laptop and I've only ever dealt with Intel computers. Whats the difference in performance between AMD and Intel? AMD laptops seem to be cheaper than Intel. I'm looking for something equivalent to an i3 or i5. I prefer i5 because of the whole battery saving thing. I'm not planning on gaming with my laptop, the biggest process I will be using is watching HD movies but thats not my main concern.

This would be GREAT for HD movies, although it is a bit pricey.. and has six cores (kind of overkill) but if your going to be buying an amd stick with Phenom IIs.

Thanks for the input but I'm looking for general information not really specific products. I would also prefer if you compared it to an Intel processor so I know what kind of performance I can expect. But based on the fact that its 3.3 Ghz i'm guessing its equivalent to an i7

Performance-wise, and if you have the money, go with an Intel-based computer.

If you're on a budget though, and won't be gaming, go with an AMD.

There are a lot of differences between a 3.3 GHz AMD CPU and a 3.3 GHz Intel CPU, as it isn't the only thing that matters. The Intel will probably be better than the AMD, depending on the CPU, but the AMD will probably be a lot cheaper and more worth it for the money you're spending.

I'm not really well-informed when it comes to laptop components, but I still stand by my opinion that AMD is worth the money, but Intel will perform better so it's not always bad to spend a little bit more.

Ok, I personally prefer AMD cpus because you get the most bang for your buck. People will tell you an i7 is better because it is faster (for example a quad core i7 is 3ghz) and an amd Phenom II is 2.8ghz, and a lot cheaper than the i7, AND has six cores.) But really you can overclock the Phenom II to be on par with the i7, and have 2 more cores. You can also overclock i7s.

AMD < Intel.

It's pretty much proven nowadays. The only reason why you would go with AMD is if your building a budget PC. There is no reason to buy AMD if you can afford Intel. AMD's processors are unstable when you overclock them, and they just overall aren't great compared to the top of the line Intel Processors.

Intels are more powerful than AMD's. LinusTechTips did a comparison with an 1100T, and a 2500K, and the 2500K won. And it only costed 10% more, and it's not even top of the line like AMD's 1100T was.
