(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); When you buy a new PC nowadays, it typically comes with a hard drive of at least 500 GB. Terabyte drives are not uncommon, and are easy and cheap to add when you need even more space.

The problem, though, is that you quickly end up with more files on your computer than there are books in a typical municipal library. And while a public library employs a number of full-time staff to manage and organise those files, few people bother to manage the files on their computer. Instead, when space gets tight, it's easier just to throw another terabyte of storage into the system than to spend some time tidying up, removing duplicate files, archiving old data, and so on.

If you prefer a command-line tool rather than something with a fancy Windows GUI, then you're catered for too. Xinorbis is a powerful disk analysis tool, the graphical version of which costs $5.50, but the command-line version is just as powerful and is totally free. It's a 1 MB download, needs no installation, and you can get it from You must login or register to view this content. (see the last link in the left hand column on that page). The download includes a PDF file with full details of all the available options and features.

RIP PICHU.
I'm too OCD about what goes on with my computer and its files... My folders have a folder for themselves...

The following user thanked Pichu for this useful post:
