(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); When I start my computer I'm getting a blue screen with an error that reads kernel data inpage error. Then it shuts off. Most sollutions I've read online require me to access the computer via safe mode, however when I try this I get the same blue screen error. The only thing I am able to access in the cmd prompt. I tried the check disk command however it wasn't able to successfully scan it. Can someone please help? Thanks

I'm guessing you have a virus. I think there is a AVG or Norton thing you can download and burn onto a disc and boot up on the PC that will search for viruses and/ or errors. Try it and see if it fixes anything?

I thought it turned on and got a blue screen? Once it turns on you need to press like one of the Fx buttons several times. Then it should come up with devices on your PC and there should be a CD-ROM thing. Boot from that and it will open up.

Yes. You need what is called a LiveCD. It is a disc image that can be burned to a CD or used to make a bootable USB drive. You will literally boot into the Live CD and run off of that instead if your hard drive. You will then scan your hard drive through that. I can give you more info on this if needed.

Other than that you may have a corrupted master boot record. The MBR is what the Windows uses to load the OS and configurations, and if it is corrupted then you may be screwed. You can fix it, if you are on windows, by booting from an XP installation disc and then choosing to repair XP (Also works for Vista and 7, but I am not sure of such an option of OS X or Linux OS's)

Beyond that, your entire system is potentially corrupted. I can't be sure.

Let me know more info. I am a student at a trade school working with computers and I could use the experience in helping.

During the BIOS you need to press F12 or ESC depending on the system. It will take you to the boot menu. Use the arrow keys to scroll down and press enter on your CD/DVD drive in the list. This will boot from the CD.

The BIOS is the black and white loading screen that comes up just after the computer boots. It should come up before windows attempts to boot.

Let me know if this helps.

I was able to get CDlive to work but I can't open any virus scanners I downloaded. What should I do now?

There's 0nly 1..
Just repair the system using windows repair from a cd, you need to boot from CD ROM in the Bios settings. If you repair youre files should be safe. Youre just overwriting the system for fixes and errors. it should run after that. Winky Winky

What LiveCD are you running? Not just any will work... Sorry if I didn't clarify that.

That's not true. It may* fix his problem. If there is a virus then he could potentially still be at risk. Yes I agree he needs to repair from the windows XP CD, but he also needs to take other measures to ensure the safety of his computer.

I would recommend downloading Hiren's Boot CD (Google it). Burn that to a CD and boot into that. Then from that CD boot into "Mini XP". Inside of mini XP there are several scanners such as Avira and Spybot which are very good. You should scan to fix any viruses or problems. After that you should find a windows XP CD (can be found on torrent sites. Look for untouched and official copies, as you do not want a copy that's been cracked or tampered with.) Burn it to a CD. Run it and select system recovery when it starts.

But honestly, above all else, I would recommend to BlueOak that he not do these things himself if he is inexperienced. Sometimes it is best to ask someone more experienced or to pay to have it fixed.
