(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); I want to download a file, but i'm not sure if it is safe or not, and i do not want a virus. My theory is, download the file, but download it to a flash drive, and scan it on there. Would that work? Or would it still jeopardize my computer..? Thanks

Virustotal.com scan the file on that site and it should give you a good determination if the file contains a virus or not. Also, you could sandbox the file, download it and then scan it in that, if it does have a virus you can discard and trash it.

If you load onto a flashdrive and it does have a virus and you don't catch it because it is FUD with your antivirus you run the risk of making your flash drive a spreader.

Here are a few suggestions:
1. VirusTotal.com
2. Download as a .rar file and scan it
3. Download the file, but do NOT run it, and then scan it with your antivirus program
4. If it is from a trustworthy website, more than likely, it is not a virus.
5. If it is from an unknown website, do option 1, 2, or 3.
6. If you want to be completely SAFE do steps 1, 2, and 3.
