Climbing up the ladder
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); So i bought a Mac and cant get on with some of the equivilent Mac Apps to the Windows Apps. So i decided to see if there was a way to use the Windows Apps on Mac.

There were various programs that allowed you to run Windows on a Mac and then the Windows App. However this isn't exactly what i wanted, because the program would lag the app.

I came across a program called "WineBottler" and here is what i was exactly looking for, something that would run my Windows Apps without running Windows.

i went to the official site but it seems there download link is broken and it wouldnt let me download it, so ill provide the link that i used along with the link to their official site.

I hope this helps anyone who had the same problem as me.

Before anyone trolls saying this has been posted before, maybe it has but that was years ago and i thought we could do with a fresh thread and also id like to show the community at NGU im not a leecher (cos im not premium cos i dont have the money to buy it)

I hope this helps you guys, Wizz

Link to Winebottler Official site:

p.s i dont take credit for the upload its what i found on the internet and as were all using a Mac its safe but feel free to scan if if you like.

Nope i've helped some fellow MAc users out there.

Wizz

Edit 1 - The official site download link is now working (I checked after i posted this so I removed the Mediafire link)

Crossover is a pretty good choice too. Its free form comes a trial so you have to redownload it but it works.

I would send you a link to the full version but youre not a premium member. Also, crossover doesnt work with every program.

I've never used Vegas series on Mac or Crossover so I can't say for sure but I imagine it would.

And if you bought a Mac, why not simply use Mac software for video editing instead of Vegas which is for Windows? Not bashing the Vegas series but simply using programs like iMovie or FCP7/X or Adobe CS that work natively in Mac OS seems like a lot less trouble in my opinion. FCP and Adobe are not free but iMovie comes free with every Mac and its a very underrated program. Don't let all those commercials with little kids using iMovie trick you because even professionals use iMovie.

Well the reason that I want to use Vegas is because thats what I learn't to edit with and there for Im familiar with the program and Im not saying iMovie is crap or anything but isn't it a bit basic? and FCP just doesn't work with me lol.

I use Adobe After Effects and FCP at the moment (on my MacBook Pro) or I will do all effects in After Effects and then I'll transfer the file onto my desktop and sync and make the full edit in vegas, It's just time consuming thats all :(

Whether the program is too basic or not depends on what you are going to do. For the most part, its a great piece of software.

FCP is hard to use without taking a class on it. I don't make a living off video editing but its become a hobby and I took several courses on how to master FCP 7 and X. I can understand wanting to work with what you're familiar with. Unfamiliar editing software is no fun at all.

glad you recognised that cos it was such a bum and everytihng was coming out all shitty so i searched for somthing to run Vegas on my Mac and i guess you can but it means running a program to run windows then running windows then running Vegas.. thats 2 OS and 2 programs 1 of which is a pretty big program (Vegas) so everything kinda runs all slow and patchy id just like a program where i can just run vegas through another program without running windows then i'd be happy :]

is there anything out there?

how does parallels work?

Parallels is a virtualization software that lets you run multiple OS. I use VMWare's Fusion but there is very little difference. Probably better to use youtube if you're not familiar with virtualization software on Mac and see how they work. I own both Fusion and Parallels(both Windows 7 Ult.) and like I said, there is hardly any difference. I just use Fusion because I like the name better.

But I will advise against doing any kind of video editing via virtualization software. It can get sluggish even on a MacPro. I have a 2010 Quad 2.8ghz Macpro w/10GB RAM at home and a 2010 Upgraded Hex 3.46ghz w/32GB of RAM at work. The CPU is hardly the bottleneck. Its RAM. The one at work is smooth, even via Fusion but the one I got at home, because of the RAM that Fusion itself eats up, 10GB quickly gets used up during video editing. I wouldn't mind doing video editing on a laptop like the Macbook Pro at all. Just not through software virtualization. Plus the heat would be immense.

To be honest, there is no smooth pain-free method of using Vegas series without Windows on a Macbook Pro that I can think of. Bootcamp would be best but that would be through a Windows environment.

Hmmm.
