This sort of discoloration is probably due to a broken motherboard or graphics card. In a laptop the graphics card is built onto the motherboard, making it impossible to replace by itself. Replacing the motherboard on a laptop is costly, and in most cases it is better to completely replace the laptop. This has been my experience and most common problem with discoloration in laptop screens.

There is a very small possibility that it is a problem with the screen itself, but I honestly doubt the screen is the issue.

If you have ever pushed on the screen hard it may have either cracked the screen or somehow distorted it.
