Help Choosing Laptop

Yep it's me I'm back again last time It was "Help building a desktop" well now that that's done I need a new laptop capable of also playing 1080p content without lagging. Most people only need a good desktop I work away for periods of weeks or months at a time on a ship and can't take my desktop with me so I need a pretty good laptop to keep me entertained while I'm away so I don't get cabin fever.

My current laptop is a Sony Vaio VGNNW20SF it's pretty good but lags to fuck when it play 1080p anything on it and the CPU and motherboard are currently running at 85 and 83 degrees centigrade fuck knows how this thing has not caught on fire yet so I need a replacement /g/ always recommends Thinkpads so I came here for other opinions.

Please don't disappoint NGU, here's a cute picture of a turtle with a suitcase to give you some extra motivation.

I am looking for a price range?

If you don't mind, I need some other information as well:

What kind of battery life are you expecting?
Any particular brand you want?
Windows or Mac? Or both?
What screen size do you like?

Here would be my take on it:

Your current laptop was around $799 at launch. So I would assume that you are looking for a laptop under $1000?

Is so, the IdeaPads or something along those lines should suffice.

Not to sure;

- Battery life, anything that last a fair amount of time is good,
- Brand I'm thinking probably Sony Vaio again but open to suggestions,
- Windows definitely if it comes to it I can install any other OS I want on it anyway
- 17" I suppose if it's going to be a desktop replacement just as long as the resolution is 1920 x 1080.

I guess Lenovos are alright. But if you want a Vaio get one.

Here is a great configurable one with a 17 inch screen. Add whatever bells and whistles you like and be on your way: You must login or register to view this content.

You might wanna consider having a gaming laptop, well gaming laptops differ from ordinary laptops, they have good graphic processors and not to mention the speed of RAM. You may check this cool site regarding gaming laptops which you can compare You must login or register to view this content.
