Mac's are for your technophobe parents who buy them because apple promises them all in one with a shiny case too! What they dont tell you is they have less powerful hardware for 3x the price because your mom cant tell the difference between 2 GB and 12GB of RAM ect. Linux is just for heterosexual hipsters who want to do things the hard way because PC's and Mac's are both "too mainstream"

No you really have it wrong, what companies can afford macs? The good ones. I see tons of companies running macs, and all the schools these days run PC's because they need a cheap solution for hundreds of computers. You really don't know much about this do you.

I have tried atleast 10 and none fit to my needs.

Redhat, centos, ubuntu, kubunto, linux mint, etc.

old but my quotes are broken , 1 installing mac on a windows pc can be done you do not need a mac that cost $2,000 , and using a linux server on a vmware setup is good for hosting websites you dont actually need a computer dedicated to it and you can access it from your home

yeah but it's not as fast, and slows your computer :p

plus servers from your home are dumb anyway. They will always be slow due to residential upload compaired to business upload.

Did you have macs before pcs? I'm pretty sure you wouldn't, unless you go to a private school or something.

Worth the Weight
I'd like to share my experience with the whole Mac vs. Windows debate that's going on here.

Firstly as an avid PC gamer (as most of you might know by now) I must say that Windows meets all the needs that I have just fine. Now on the other hand, I do have some negative things to say about Windows as well.

Windows 7 is pretty stable. However it's not as stable as I'd like it to be. Just a few moments ago I had to force reset my computer because literally nothing was responding. Not CTRL ALT DELETE or anything. It just locked up completely. This actually happened right after a popup about Windows Update appeared (which is fucking annoying by the way)

What I'm trying to say here is that Mac OS X is by far more stable than any Windows that I have ever used. And I've used Windows 95, 2000, XP, Vista, 7 and 8. There was always lockups at times, there were noticeable problems in all of these operating systems. But the reason I stuck to it was that it was FREE.

I could do anything that I wanted on it. I wasn't limited to a more closed ecosystem. It was great. The problem with Mac OS X is that it's to watered down. It's very polished and stable from what I have used. And the closed ecosystem actually works much better for general usage. It's worth more than Windows is, since it's like 30 bucks. Windows has a shit ton of different versions (which REALLY bug me) all priced differently.

Now I'd like to move on to the whole "Installing OS X on a PC" thing. Let me get two things out of the way first because it's clear to me people have no idea what they're talking about.

1. OS X can't run on a regular Dell. It has to be run on a custom made PC with OS X compatible parts.
2. OS X in a Virtual Machine has no support. There are no guest additions which makes it horrible to use.

Now along with that, installing OS X is not as easy as people make it out to be. There are HUGE precautions that you need to take when you are doing so. Custom kernels, bootloaders, Kexts etc. This is NOT as simple as popping in the OS X disk and simply clicking install.

What I've loved about Mac for so long is that I can have an amazing OS (which by the way I find more appealing for general use) and still run Windows on it without any hassle whatsoever. Make a partition via Bootcamp. Pop in the CD and reboot. Done in half on hour with no headaches. But what's the limitation here? HARDWARE.

The hardware on Macs are outright TERRIBLE for the price. Apple would profit much more if they'd let people like me but their OS for (hell I don't care, make it $200 I'd still buy it) and install it on hardware that I have put together myself. This would open up much more business for them because I'd have to still buy their mouses, keyboards and upgrades from THEM. But then again, they'd stop selling actual Macs.

So what I'm trying to say is that both OS's are excellent. I thoroughly enjoy them both. I might even consider going hackintosh. But for now I have no real use for it. I've just always thought like this.

I'm sticking to Windows. Relax. I don't have any Mac in my house, but I thought I'd just share my feelings on the matter :y:

Edit: To clarify, I realize that OS X can crash as well. But in my experience I have hardly had any. (Well that experience was more like 3 hours over at a friends house with it)

:trollSad Awesome Windows MASTER RACE

No but seriously. I respect them both.
