It is one of the most common reasons for a premature shutdown. First get some canned air and blow out all the dust, even the heatsink and fan. Remove heatsink and fan to access the cpu. Using a sharp tool (xacto blades are good) carefully scrape off the old paste from the heatsink and cpu. Using some new grease, apply just a small dot to the heatsink or cpu,not both. Using your finger spread the grease evenly over the surface of the cpu, or the area that will come in contact with the cpu on heatsink. Replace all parts and restart, this should fix your problem.
