Post: Freezing and Locking up Issue

My System:

CPU: Intel Core i7 2700k @ 4.5Ghz
GPU: Sapphire AMD Radeon HD 7950 3GB OC Edition
MOBO: ASUS P8Z68-v pro/gen3
HDSad Awesome 1TB WD Caviar Black @ 7200rpm
PSU: 1000W Novatech Black Edition (Rebranded OCZ Supply)
COOLING: Noctua NH-D14 Dual Radiator + Fan
DVD/RW: Some generic Liteon Drive
RAM: G.Skill RipjawsX 4x4GB @ 1866mhz
MONITOR: 26" Generic Monitor
CASE: Coolermaster HAF-X E-ATX

Basically, my computer decides that it wants to lock up every now and then.. I have tortured all my hardware so i know it's all working as it should be (CPU, GPU, RAM), I haven't properly tested my motherboard or PSU however.

I'll be on iTunes listening to music and browsing the internet and i will get lockups where i cant do anything that will last anything from 10 seconds to 3 minutes. Then the computer will come back.. if i was watching a film i'd have to wait for the audio and video to resync. Also the sound will loop and sound like my computers about to transform into optimus prime during the crash time. I was told that it was windows shutting down my hard disk after 20 minutes but i have changed this setting and even though the crashes seem to have receeded somewhat they still happen.

However, running all the latest games on steam at maximum settings for 12 hours at a time is fine and i can run it for as long as i want with very low temparatures, thanks to my Coolermaster case and stupid amount of noisy fans.

Thanks for any help guise!

Actually its 4.8Ghz
102mhz x 47.0

running at 13 Degrees Centigrade idle.. 36 under load.

Jeez that's awfully cool :p

What voltages are you using on idle is what I meant. Also using BCLK overclocking is very unstable. Change the 102MHz x 47 to 100MHz x 48. Or x47 for 4.7GHz.

Are you using manual or offset voltages? If you are using offset try to increase the voltage by 0.005V or so.

Thanks for all the help Millz.
I'll remove the BCLK later when i'm off HDMI.
It's using 1.35V idle...

Okay so then it's not the voltage, and that means you're running the same amount of voltage under load and on idle. But after you managed to get it stable again you should try using offset voltages, so that you are not running unneeded voltage through the chip. 1.35V for 4.8GHz is excellent voltage, however you could increase the lifespan of the chip if you used offset voltages. If your motherboard has a OC profile system you should go ahead and save it there once you get it stable so that you can always default to that if something goes wrong when tinkering.

Glad I could help :p
