Maggbot timeout!
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); So my Desktop is pretty old about 2 years and I was thinking it was time to upgrade it but I'm not sure if I should or just start from scratch. Here are my current specs: from what I can remember brought at Best Buy for $200 because of Premium member points and coupon discounts with sales.
Processor - AMD Phenom II X4 960T
Ram- 8GB ( More than enough for modern gaming)
Video Card ATI Radeon HD 4200
Motherboard N-Alvorix-RS880-uATX
Audio Integrated ALC888S-VD audio ( Least of my concern)
Power Internal 250W (100-240V) ( Too Weak for modern video card)
Additional I was thinking of getting a new Fan, Cool Master brand maybe
Any suggestion would be helpful Happy
*On the poll If was suppose to be or sorry for the misspell!*

EDIT: I found on the HP Site the Build of my Desktop for a better visual. You must login or register to view this content.

I'd build a new system, the majority of that build is out of date. You say that 8GB is enough for gaming but is it DDR2 or DDR3? Frequency?

...

It'd be easier starting anew. Budget? Preferences? Requirements?

The motherboard and CPU are workable. The memory will be fine until DDR4 in a few years. I assume your case is okay. Most people don't mind integrated audio so that's no concern.

This leaves a new power supply and a dedicated video card. Budget? Any preferences of any sort?

If I have to put a budget around maybe $350 just for upgrading and for preferences maybe something good enough for modern gaming.

What I'd go with at just a touch over $350:

Power Supply: You must login or register to view this content.
Video Card: You must login or register to view this content.

Also, if you get that card, it overclocks like a monster.

If you want to save a few bucks, cut the power supply back to a 500W non-modular, and cut the video card back to a 7850 or a 7870. They both overclock really nicely as well.

is there any difference on the brand? I find that if I buy the Sapphire brand I get about $10 off but lose 50 MHz core clock You must login or register to view this content.

Although the difference would be minimal I'd expect the Gigabyte to have better cooling and thus overclock better.

Seriously, if you get a 7950 and don't overclock you're crazy! You can easily achieve 7970+ performance with an overclocked 7950 with next to no loss in lifespan.
