(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); So sound is something vital for gaming. Its another sense you desperately need because you loose your other three!
I figured I would start a thread and hopefully a discussion on some headsets you guys use/suggest.

A few notes

  1. It doesn't have to be compatible with anything other than a pc running linux or windows
  2. It doesn't have to be a headset, it can headphones with a desk mic
  3. I only want to spend around $150 BUT please do no let it limit your suggestions

EDIT** Just bought the sennheiser pc360's and they are AMAZING! As long as you have a decent soundcard (Mine being the asus xonar dx 7.1) they will pump out accurate sound and really put you in the game better than I have ever felt. (Take note I also tried the logitech 930's, astro a40's, turtle beach px25's, and the corsair vengence 2000). I really have to say these are awesome and will do me well for a while hopefully. This is the only headset I will be recommending.

Edit#2** Note to all that are running low on cash and can't afford or don't want to pay for "Highish end" audio. Get the Koss sb-45. I just picked up a pair for a bit under $25 and would like to say that they are better that some $100 headsets out there. I am even considering returning my pc360's because although they are nearly flawless, when making a comparison of quality vs. money the Koss' kill the Sennheisers. But, only time will tell how they really do last as headphones don't have a high reputation of staying good too long.

Dammit. No money for a soundcard atm. Is it really necessary for GOOD audio. Also I have an asrock z77 extreme 4, hows the onboard audio?

Generally you'll get better audio quality from headphones. Having said that, if all you care about is hearing footsteps in some FPS game, then dedicated gaming headsets are the way to go.

For everyone to know he is completely correct. If you will be using these for music also go for headphones, but if you have speakers or headphones already get a gaming headset because it will be better for gaming but worse for music.

Yep, if I am getting a soundcard I am not going to bs it. I would get the "xonar xi-fi titanium"?? I think thats what it is. It is nice from the old research I did. But you see I am not in music production and probably won't get caught up in the whole youtube commentary scene so it isn't an issue. I will be spending my cash on a second gpu, ssd, and monitor for sli and dual monitor before I consider the soundcard.

EDIT** It is made by sound blaster not xonar

Are you kidding???? If you don't know what your talking about please do not comment to get your post count up. That is a horrible recommendation whether you are suggesting them for gaming or music. No matter what you use them for they are bad; other than walking around the city not doing anything.

Well, playing game with sound is absolutely pleasure and I like to play game with headset. Generally, I am using Skull candy brand's headset because there is great sound quality and I love to play any of adventure game with amazing sound.

Skull candy's are generally (by generally I mean always) bad for precision hearing. I.e. gaming. They are VERY bass heavy which you don't want in game. You want a low frequency response of around 16hz to give you a more accurate sound but having a headphone that just outputs alot no matter what the frequency is is bad. I do not recommend them for gaming. Good gaming headphones I used to use were the sennheiser hd 558.
