(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); So sound is something vital for gaming. Its another sense you desperately need because you loose your other three!
I figured I would start a thread and hopefully a discussion on some headsets you guys use/suggest.

A few notes

  1. It doesn't have to be compatible with anything other than a pc running linux or windows
  2. It doesn't have to be a headset, it can headphones with a desk mic
  3. I only want to spend around $150 BUT please do no let it limit your suggestions

EDIT** Just bought the sennheiser pc360's and they are AMAZING! As long as you have a decent soundcard (Mine being the asus xonar dx 7.1) they will pump out accurate sound and really put you in the game better than I have ever felt. (Take note I also tried the logitech 930's, astro a40's, turtle beach px25's, and the corsair vengence 2000). I really have to say these are awesome and will do me well for a while hopefully. This is the only headset I will be recommending.

Edit#2** Note to all that are running low on cash and can't afford or don't want to pay for "Highish end" audio. Get the Koss sb-45. I just picked up a pair for a bit under $25 and would like to say that they are better that some $100 headsets out there. I am even considering returning my pc360's because although they are nearly flawless, when making a comparison of quality vs. money the Koss' kill the Sennheisers. But, only time will tell how they really do last as headphones don't have a high reputation of staying good too long.

yea I was between the g35, g350, razer tiamat, and the audio technica m50's with a desk mic.
Consider the tiamats would need a desk mic too.

Generally you'll get better audio quality from headphones. Having said that, if all you care about is hearing footsteps in some FPS game, then dedicated gaming headsets are the way to go.

I must say... I've had Turtle Beaches, Trittons, and now I have Astro A40s and out of the three "big names" Astros have been BY FAR the better headset. Not only do they work on all 3 (PS3, Xbox, and PC) but they are amazing for sound whoring.. Even on Black Ops 2.

If you don't have the money.. wait. Save up. They're durable and well worth it.

I've tried a few turtle beaches. I've used them on PC and PS3 and all the turtle beaches I have used are mediocre quality and they break. I would love to try out the Astro A40s or A50s

Lol yep I didn't want to create/show any bias. I was going to get either the g930's or the razer tiamat. Never ever will I get Tritons or Turtle beachs. Although astros do seem nice.

Plus note for everyone. With a pc in the middle ALL headsets compatible with pc are compatible with the consoles.
