Have you ever thought it might be possible to strip down a Laptop and rebuild it into a desktop?

Mainly make it so if you have a laptop that's no upgrade-able that you can upgrade it (things like graphics card, processor, put an extra DVD/Blu Drive in it)

Post your comments on here if you think it's possible, or if you know someone who has attempted it possibly!

Its possible, nothing is impossible but you will need to make motherboard standoffs and a few other things and its a overall pain in the ass, it will be weaker than a desktop, non upgradeable etc

I figured it would be possible. Why wouldn't it be upgradeable though? I guess I never really understood why a computer wouldnt be able to upgrade something like the graphics card.

Because motherboards in laptops are custom made generally. To add in a graphics card your motherboard needs PCI-e slots which a laptop motherboard wouldn't have because of space/useless in a laptop.

if I was to make a laptop into a desktop I wouldn't even bother making standoffs. I would break the screen off and tape it in a case- Seems about as useful to me =\

In Flames Much?
Possible but like Toke said impossible to upgrade.
Also would be weaker would help with the cooling however it's not worth it.

Worth the Weight
It's not unupgradable. Laptops still use a varient of PCIe, so you'll be limited to only installing mobile components. But your issue is more with changing out the power supply for a more beefy one, which may not be handled by the motherboard. There is way too many variables that will make this process harder and most likely more expensive.

RIP PICHU.
Laptops are designed for portability. That's why I spent 1,000$ on mine. Everything about it is custom, mine is an i7 3630 Quad Core, 12gb DDR3 ram w/ GTX 660m Graphics.

I can play any game I wish on it, here is the downside:

On battery saving mode, I run 1.15gz w/ 3 hours and 15-3 hours and 30 minutes of battery time. I can run things very well as well as game. When I run performance mode, I get about 1-1/2 hours but I can run games, recording software, and anything else I like without any issues. Battery being the only problem.

Laptops are not meant to be upgraded, you can buy the parts that do match and install them yourself but it has to be a part that is meant for your model, generally speaking; if there is a model above yours, you can sometimes upgrade yours by buying the part. The expense however is not worth it.

If you are wanting to build a desktop, drop the 800$ and build a nice computer. A 750$ build is going to match or be more powerful than the computer I run with the power supply within it. If properly cooled, it will also last a lot longer.
