(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); hi all just wondering if anyone could help me..

i purchased a macbook not pro, and i am just having a issue connecting my external HDD.

Everything seems fine when connecting, power up light etc seems fine but the problem is.. the HD is just not showing on the mac not even in disk utilities?

The HD is formatted to fat32 and there is not a problem with the HD itself as it works fine on the ps3.. All i want to do is get the thing working on the mac so i can transfer GTA V over to it so i can play it ASAP !!!!

also i am using a usb cable which is used for charging the ps3 controller, could this be my problem ? the cable is pretty lenghty also but im afraid thats the only cable i have with me right now as i am working away.

Will a simple purchase of a 2.0 usb cable solve this problem or do i need to reformat ? obviously i would have to do that on another pc/laptop as nothing is showing on the mac desktop or disk utility.

Hope this is understandable lol and would really appreciate it if anyone can solve this problem for me.

Thanks, DannySmileSmile

Do you have any other computer that you can test it on? I know that sometimes the PS3 will be able to read a failing hard drive while a regular computer cannot (I actually used this to recover some pictures from a dying hard drive once).

Thanks for you reply Millz, i just connected it to the ps3 and i get nothing so my hd is actually fucked now lol. Do you think buying a shorter better usb cable would be worth a shot ? Instead of pulling out money for a new Hd straight away haha.

Although it's possible, I am starting to think that the hard drive is going bad. If you want to you can purchase a new cable and see whether or not that works, however I don't think that is the reason why it's not working. If I were you and I had important information on the hard drive I would download Ubuntu and dual boot it/boot from USB and plug in the hard drive and see if it detects it. Usually Linux is able to detect and read from failing hard drives.

hi just to let you know i didnt purchase a new cable but a guy got me one from a place i work at, a smaller white one 1m i guess... and BOOM everything is fine, thanks for your kindness to help but this was a really simple fix lol, i had a feeling it maybe that cable as the hard drive was working perfect with original cable which is lost.

Hmm, I know I used to use a Ps3 cable for my hard drive. Well, I'm glad you fixed it Smile
