Hi all, I come seeking ideas of what could be causing my problem:
I have a pretty good idea of what it could be/is, but I may be overlooking something very small.

So today, I completely took apart my laptop aside from the screen. I had three problems I was trying to fix:
1) the mousepad stopped responding
2) the dc power cable stopped responding
3) the screen hinge was broke

I was able to fix 1 and 2, and could have fixed 3 if I had a hinge.
I put the laptop back together and everything functions correctly as it should.
I put a little pressure beside the mousepad (both sides do it) and my laptop completely shuts off.
It's definitely not a problem with the hard drive because the whole laptop wouldn't shut off if it was faulty. My general idea of what's going on is: the circuit beneath the mousepad is getting shorted out. I must have put a longer screw in an incorrect spot or something and by doing this: pressure from top + mousepad area circuit touching screw = shorts it out.
Just looking to see what you guys think it could be? I'm rather positive it's what I stated above, but it's not a bad idea to get other's ideas of what it could possibly be.

I had my beast of a laptop looked at multiple people and it had a short at first and randomly shutoff, now I suspect it is the motherboard as it doesn't even post sometimes now

I'm hoping mine is just a short somewhere. The motherboard for this laptop is more than my high end desktop motherboard... It'll be $175 to replace tears
