Post: Which version of Linux should I install?
10-26-2013, 11:58 AM #1
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); So It's been about 2 years since I got my laptop and well I think it's about time I formatted and re-installed windows. So I'm gonna do that and give it about 200GB of my partition then on the other 900GB~ I'm going to install linux as my main OS. At the moment I'm planning to go with Debian as I've used Crunchbang before and like it. I don't think I'd be able to use Arch day to day as I have no real experience with linux over a long time and I don't like Ubuntu with all the shit they bundle it with now, so any other recommendations? Also, not Gentoo, for obvious reasons.

Does anyone here even use linux as their main OS?

Its very easy to use, but to get its full capabilities you will need to know your stuff, if you ever get stuck just google it, everything will be there, pretty straight forward if you ask me

After installing windows and partitioning the HDD, I just thought fuck it and couldn't be bother to go through another install in the same day after copying files for hours and windows taking ages to install, so I didn't even bother with linux in the end. I have CB installed on one laptop but I hardly ever use that PC for anything other than seeding.

Okay I went back and installed CB on my PC yesterday and so far it's going really well. Only thing that didn't work was the wireless but I got that working eventually and honestly it got the other drivers better than windows becuase all my Fn keys display gui bars when adjusted which isn't the case on windows 7 for that same PC, they did work on windows 8 but... fuck windows 8. I then just went ahead and installed mpd and ncmpcpp and next I need to install firefox becuase Ice Weasel is shit. Now... if only I could work out how to install firefox from a tar.bz or whatever extension it was.
