How do you mean "the opponent hanged"?

err. like if ps3 got this moving dotted circular on the left hand side showing its like 'loading'. that thing moving and im stuck throughout. need to go dashboard.

I think you need a lag switch to do it. ****s who bum off their W/L ratio will use so you think that you are disconnecting, and by making you wait to leave. What you probably don't know is that it freezes for them too, and they have to wait until you leave, or turn the lag switch off and continue playing.

If you want a way to solve this, I usually send them a message saying something like "I have all day to wait, I wont be quitting anytime soon, so you may as well just sign out." and most of the time they do so, because they cba to wait around for ages.

The way the lag switch works is that it stops the upstream of your PS3 connection, so the other player does not get a response from you, making the game seem like you are losing connection, but he stays in the game because he is still connected. (This is not for definite, but I think I am right.)
