I find that using the O/B button works quite well, it slows them down, thus allowing me to stick a foot in, and get the ball and put it for a throw in or even mount a counter attack.

what works unreal for me is if hess running up the line hold r1 or the 2nd person button and let the 2nd person jockey hime while you go and block off the passes that can be made this is great as when you block off the passes he can only go down the wing and the computer is alot harder to turn then you yourself!

Key is timing though.

its called tactical defending when someone has a speedy winger for example i just stand off untill i have to slide or guess which way he is going to run

That's what I do, works well considering...

I find the best way to defend is to not actually use your defenders the computer will automatically position your defenders in the correct place and follow them backwards towards your goal when an oppertunity arrises the computer will automatically put a tackle in for you to assit them you can control a midfield player and bring him back to defence to also intercept passes and place tackles this isent always 100% effective however once practiced and used well this is a very good way of defending

try to read the oppostions play by intercepting passes and marking free players leave the computer to do any major tackles for you if you are in a situation where you can put a tackle in be abserloutley sure you will get the ball or you run the risk of putting the player out of position or allowing the opposition to simply dribble the ball past you
