The problem is at FIFA's core and it's called momentum, something that FIFA has been lacking since roughly FIFA 08.

You'll find numerous threads about it over at the EA forums, hopefully it's something that's implemented properly next year.

I didnt like the new defending in 12, and still dont. I find it much harder to make a tackle, and concede a few goals because of it. But, if I player is running at your defender in an attack, hold L2 and your player kinda gets in the way, so its hard for him to shoot, cross, or pass forwards :y:

I use through balls and heavy touches to push the ball forward then sprint onto it. Its works a sometimes but not 100%

I find the best way to defend is to hold the x still as it's auto jockey, and the shoulder button to call over a team mate to help, seems to be alot easier to defend, dont press circle at all i find up until last momonet, or if you plan to barge, if a players got speed on you the slide tackle from behind as long as he's not too far ahead still works for a good challenge, obviously be careful, but i find alot of chuky tackles don't get punished to often.

Go to edit teams then custom tactics. In the defending part set defending to contain and set to pressure to low. This will stop the defenders pushing up higher up the pitch. Save the custom setting. When playing online simply use the the analogue pad to select your custom setting.

You can also assign the amount of work a certain position carries out. i.e. set the attcking option for players to low and defending to high.

Timing is absolutely key for success. Always park your defenders a bit further back from where they are usually positioned so you're ready if someone attacks. If you can go for the offside, force it upon your opponent since it'll break up the flow of the game and give you possession. I say hold your defenders a few yards back because the space between your defender and the opponent is vital for correctly timing your tackle. When your opponents' striker is running towards your goal, run back towards your own goal (following the striker) whilst holding the L2 button - the jockey button. This will help maintain that space between you and him and allow you to watch and time his movements so you don't miss a tackle and get dribbled past. Once you're sure of what he's going to do, make his striker comfortable. Let him approach just before the penalty box area to make him think he's gotten past everyone then release L2 and tackle him. Steal the ball and continue your play. Also, anticipation is also key. Intercept passes to break up your opponents' pattern and attck. Position your players in fornt of players the ball will be most likely given to.

Contain contain contain!, Thats the only way, Make sure you don't run straight into them and attempt a tackle with the B button because if you faul, your ****ed basically. What I do is contain them with the A button, Try to stay a head of them. Then surprise them let go of A then go in for the tackle. It works wonders for me.
