Anyway, I'm looking to get back into it, but I was wondering what the system software should be on the ps3 i buy, because it used to be 3.55 cfw, but I understand that there are newer versions available, so what should I be looking for? What will work for me to be able to mod the CoD series? Thanks for your help!

Since you are 'new' you should go to a CEX cfw , they are easier to learn than DEX and both have nearly the same functions , I'm using Rogero 4.50 v1.01 CEX CFW and it works great!
I do mod on CoD & GTA with no problems :p
