Thermal paste is a layer of paste between the processors and heatsinks to transfer heat efficiently. Over a couple of years, they can dry up and become less efficient. It doesn't really matter that it's 6 months old because most PS3s still have their original paste from many years ago but I like to list every detail possible.

Cool, I own a jailbroken PS3 and was just wondering if it's something I should be concerned about :p
Anything I can do to extend the life of my PS3?

Fair enough. I'd recommend monitoring the temperatures of your PS3 and if it gets to the high 70s (centigrade) then I'd suggest using Control Fan Utility to adjust the fan speed. Lower temperatures normally mean longer lifespan on electronics. :p
