Post: Why do sites still see my real location through a proxy?

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); I run traffic for a few different GEOs, so I need to check landing pages and ad tools from the country I'm targeting. The proxy shows the right IP, but every now and then a site still serves me local content or somehow figures out the region I'm actually in. At this point it feels like changing the IP only solves half the problem. What else are sites looking at, and how do you stop the browser from giving the location away?

A proxy only changes one part of what the site sees, and the browser can still be carrying a bunch of clues that don't match it. Timezone, language, WebRTC, location permissions, and the profile itself can all make the setup look inconsistent. Keep separate browser profiles for different GEOs and make sure the basic settings aren't contradicting the proxy. That usually clears up a lot of those cases where the IP looks right but the site still acts like it knows better.

Once the IP checks out, the browser itself is the next place to look. A lot of tracking happens through the combination of small browser signals, so one mismatch can be enough to point back to the real region. Read about browser fingerprint spoofing You must login or register to view this content. . It explains what sits beyond the proxy and why the browser can still be identifiable. Go through the signals your setup exposes and see which ones still point to the wrong region. That makes it much easier to tell whether the problem is coming from the proxy or from the browser profile.
