Glad you asked , A meme is an internet phenomenon. This is usually started by an image or video. These memes spread from 1 person to another and before you know it , everyone knows about it!

#10 - The "O Rly" Owl
This Meme started like most memes through a macro image , This is an image with humourous writing on it. A Photographer called John White took the original photo of the snow white owl. As usual someone edited this photo and put it onto something awful Forums.
Now People use this in a sarcastic term like so :

    "O RLY?"

"YA RLY"

"NO WAI!!!"

#9 - All Your Base are belong to us!

All Your Base Are Belong To Us (also known as "All Your Base", "AYBABTU", or just "AYB") is an Engrish (broken English) phrase originating from the opening cut scene of the European Sega Mega Drive version of Zero Wing, a rather poorly translated Japanese video game by Toaplan.
The game started with the cut-scene with the following words:

    Captain: What happen ?

Mechanic: Somebody set up us the bomb.

Operator: We get signal.

Captain: What !

Operator: Main screen turn on.

Captain: It's you !!

CATS: How are you gentlemen !!

CATS: All your base are belong to us.

#8 - Kikia

Kikia was the first example of a flash shock site and it unleashed a torrent of shockers that continues to this day. Starting out with a cartoon drawing of a little boy, Chinese writing, and gentle music, the cartoon moves along slowly until you are suddenly shown a hideous animation of a face with a loud scream.

The original kikia was posted on a Taiwanese website Kimo, under the username Netspooky. Many popular images to appear in these screamers are taken from the film The Exorcist.

#7 - Loituma Girl

Loituma Girl, also known as "Leekspin" is a combination of a 4-frame animation loop taken from a Japanese anime Bleach and a gibberish part (all the words are made up) of a traditional Finnish folk song "Ievan Polkka" sung by the Finnish quartet Loituma. The animation comes from the second episode of Bleach, and features Inoue Orihime twirling a spring onion in her hand. In the anime, jokes are often made about Orihime since she likes to cook weird and often inedible stuff.

THIS. IS. SPARTA!!! is a meme inspired by the brutal and overly dramatic movie "300" where the Spartan king Leonidas shouts the line before killing a Persian messenger. The whole dialogue goes like this:

    Messenger: Choose your next words carefully, Leonidas. They may be your last as king.

King Leonidas: [to himself] "Earth and water"?

[Leonidas unsheathes and points his sword at the Messenger's throat]

Messenger: Madman! You're a madman!

King Leonidas: Earth and water? You'll find plenty of both down there.

Messenger: No man, Persian or Greek, no man threatens a messenger!

King Leonidas: You bring the crowns and heads of conquered kings to my city steps. You insult my queen. You threaten my people with slavery and death! Oh, I've chosen my words carefully, Persian. Perhaps you should have done the same!

The meme has been modified many times; you must have seen people posting things like THIS. IS. INTERNETS! and such. Basically anything can be (and has been) used to replace the last part of the line. This web fad has also inspired a number of silly images and videos. #5 -Goatse
This meme is so horrible to see , I cannot post an image of it on this forum for I will be banned. Nor can I post a link to the site.
For thos who haven't saw it , Believe me , You wish you could un-see it.
A url is placed on a site referring to something that interests the user , but instead redirects them to the goatse site. Usually scares the shit out of the user because it has a naked man ripping his anus open in a revolting manner.

#4 - Chocolate Rain by Tay Zonday


This meme is the video of a man (Tay zonday) singing his now famous song "Chocolate Rain".
This was an amature video untill the users of 4Chan found it, If you cann see the views now , It's nearing 50,000,000.
The 4chan users like the "amaturity" of Tay because in the video it he says "i move away from the mic to breath in" and also has a freakishly deep voice for the way he looks.
This video has had over 4,000 re-makes now.

#3 - RickRoll'ing

Rickrolling is an Internet meme typically involving the music video for the 1987 Rick Astley song "Never Gonna Give You Up". The meme is a bait and switch (like the goatse one) a person provides a web link that they claim is relevant to the topic at hand, but the link actually takes the user to the Astley video. When a person clicks on the link and is led to the web page, he or she is said to have been "Rickrolled". Astly's video has had around 40,000,000 altogether and has had thousands of remakes.

The origin of this meme dats back to the days of 4chan again.

This has to be the biggest meme of the decade!
LOLCats is a surprisingly new phenomenon starting in January 2007. And an out of work software developer from Hawaii, Eric Nakagawa, seems to be the culprit.He found a photo of a chubby, smiling cat on the Internet. The photo had the caption “I can has cheezburger?”. He thought it pretty funny. I’ve tracked the photo he found and here it is.
