If socialism could work alongside democracy it'd be theoretically the greatest community the world had ever seen.

If everyone were to pay $500 more in taxes each year for a socialistic cause, the country would be a happier place. Healthcare for those who can't afford it, more relief for the homeless, etc. It's not like most hardcore right-wing people would have you believe where "the socialist devil-worshiping fiends are trying to steal your hard earned money and give it to unemployed pot-smoking hippies."
