(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); So... my parents have been bugging me to do something after school (besides play PS3) and so I signed up to play tennis at my highschool yesterday. Practice starts Monday and I haven't EVER played tennis. Do any of you play? Have good tips? Do you know any good sites that help? Please let me know Smile

Learn the basics first; i.e forehands, backhands, volleys, serves until you can regularly get the ball back to where you want. The grips for each shot are also important as you will probably learn. The semi-western should be used for forehands. One way to get a good semi-western is to put your racket on the floor and just pick it up flat.
Backhands and volleys should be played with chopper grip, basically imagine your racket as a knife and hold it as if your chopping something (duh?).
Finally the most important spin you should be able to play is top spin (around 75% of shots) this is basically brushing up over the ball and helps you keep the ball in the court.

Well pretty much have fun, listen to your coach and practice and you should improve pretty fast.

Good tips, don't you think spin a little advanced for someone who had never played before though?

He's just beginning he doesn't need to know how each grip effects spin. Surely just basic returning is what you need to learn first.

it is quite funny hitting a tennis ball going right out of the tennis courts and into someone's garden down the road
