(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); So... my parents have been bugging me to do something after school (besides play PS3) and so I signed up to play tennis at my highschool yesterday. Practice starts Monday and I haven't EVER played tennis. Do any of you play? Have good tips? Do you know any good sites that help? Please let me know Smile

I've played a bit against friends now and then and have watched a fair bit... The most important thing in tennis is getting our opponent out of position and off balance. If you can get them off balance and to one side of the court you have a simple shot to the other side. Also try and hit your shots flat, by this I mean don't put a big ol' loop on them because it takes pace off the ball. The only time you should have put loop on the ball is if they're at the net and you want to put it over them to the back of the court. Also never underestimate the power of the drop shot. A little tap over the net when your opponent is at the back of the court will catch alot a newer players out. Knowing when you use a forehand and backhand is vital as it could mean the difference between playing straight to the other person and winning the point.

Edit: The BBC have a good little beginners into. Take a look at how to grip the racket correctly, sounds blindingly obvious I know. It's surprising how many people cock it up though....

Thanks for the tips! I do have one question though, what do you mean by drop shot? (I deleted the rest of the quote just so you know exactly what part I'm talking about)

It means a tap over the net. Normally you would smash it towards the back of the court, but you just tap it over the net so they have to sprint towards the net.

I would just recommend you to stick to the basics. Don't try stuff thats for pros. Don't always hit the ball with all of your strenght because sometimes all you need is a lob. Good luck with your career lol
