The Guide to Making a Good Thread
Have you ever wondered how some peoples threads become popular and have many posts and views? Well if so this guide is what will help you make your threads noticeable.
Here are some key points I will expand on throughout this guide:
- Have a good title.
- Make sure it hasn't been posted before.
- Make sure it is well formatted if it is a guide, tutorial, or review.
- Think about what NGU members would be interested to hear.
Good Title:
A good title is very important on how many people take time to view your thread. Make sure it has good spelling and something that grab a readers attention.
Examples:
Bad Title: " codwaw beta not fro ps3?"
As you can see this title has spelling mistakes and hard to understand
Good Title: "Call of Duty:WaW beta not for PS3"
In this title you can actually understand what the creator means without having to decode spelling mistakes.
Has it been posted before?
This one is pretty self-explanatory, if something has been posted what would be the point of reposting it? It will just get locked by mods before it gets to the second page. Even if you're title is different than the original post, it is still the same as reposting it. So the key here is " Look, before you post".
Formatting
This is EXTREMELY important when making a long post, like guides or reviews. Make sure it is easy for the reader to read it. Put spaces in between paragraphs to rest a readers eyes. Nobody wants to read 1 big paragraph with no breaks in it.
The second thing is the text colors. If the text blends into the background it will be very hard to read, most people won't bother reading it unless they are really interested. Also do not make ever sentence a different colors, it hurts every ones eyes. So read your post after making it to make sure it is legible.
Interests of NGU members
Lastly make sure it is something people on NGU would want to read about. Keep in mind most the people here are gamers. So posting something about glitches or updates about a certain games release will get allot of attention. Random ideas won't.
Secondly remember the age group you are writing for. This is not a forum that has kids under 11 (As far as I know) so I assume most of us don't watch kid shows and most of the people are at an age where they start to mature more. So keep your posts mature and something we would want to hear about.
Conclusion
This is pretty much what you need to know to make a good thread. If you follow these steps, even though you're not guaranteed to a successful thread, you still have more of a chance of creating a popular thread.
