Wow, its been a while since I did one of these. Ive just had a lot of things I needed to deal with. Enough about me, lets get down to business. On March 27 Newark New Jersey will be hosting UFC 111 at the Prudential Center. I'm pretty stoked about it because one of my favorite fighters will be throwing down! Make sure not to miss this action packed lineup if all possible. Enough with the intro, lets talk match ups. I will list it from main event down to undercards.

FIGHTER ANALYSIS
Georges St-Pierre

The one thing that just jumped out to me about this UFC is plain and simple…GSP!
I know there are people out there that really dislike him and flat out despise him. Not liking him is one thing but regardless of that, you will respect him. The guy has true talent and only gets better with every fight. He’s come far since his rookie days. His last fight against Thiago Alves showed that he deserves the crown without doubt. He actually got injured in the first or second round (torn groin muscle) and pulled off a 5th round unanimous decision with no sign of injury. Prior to that fight, Thiago was a absolute monster and got basically annihilated for 5 rounds straight!

FIGHTER ANALYSIS
Dan Hardy

George Saint Pierre’s opposition for UFC 111 will come in the form of Dan Hardy. Hardy is a impressive up & comer that can fight almost as good as he can talk. I say up and comer because this will only be his 5th fight in the UFC. His overall MMA record is 23-6. I did get to watch his last fight against Mike “Quick” Swick and was impressed. He is very confident in his skill and will need to bring everything to the table against GSP.

Prediction
My prediction of this fight goes as followed…Hardy will fold like a lawn chair. GSP is really in a class of his own now-a-days. The one thing Hardy has going for him is a punchers chance. He has heavy hands and has proven he can end fights in a single punch. GSP is a monster in regards to having some serious ground game skills. Hardy (if he’s smart) wont try and take it to that level.

Fighter Analysis
Frank Mir

This fight will be for the interim heavyweight championship (sort of a useless title). Frank Mir is a vet when it comes to the octagon. He is a two time UFC champion but had some real up’s and downs in his career but he still has the will to take on premier fighters of the UFC. With a record of 13-4 and a submission win over the current heavyweight champ Brock Lesnar (Brock's only loss) he is a true threat to the whole heavyweight division. As for a description of his skills, he has mediocre hands but has a excellent submission game (keep in mind, he is a 6’3” 240lb man!).

Fighter Analysis
Shane Carwin

Shane Carwin was scheduled to fight Brock Lesnar but Brock had a medical condition and was unable to follow through with it. That was some serious bad news for Shane because now he has to fight one more fight before he gets that chance again. Carwin has a unblemished record of 11-0 overall and 4-0 in the UFC. Three out of four wins were knockouts. One knockout is the former heavyweight champion Gonzaga. Carwin is real respectful in regards to trash talk. Ive heard he has some of the hardest hits in his division. He is a 2x NCAA Div II Wrestling National Runner-up HWT (1996,1997). NCAA II Wrestling National Champion HWT (1999). 2x NCAA II All-American in Football. Ring of Fire HWT Champion.

Prediction
With the size of these men (Carwin-6’5”, Mir-6’4”Winky Winky I don’t think it will go to a decision. If Carwin doesn’t knock Mir out than Mir will in all likelihood try his damnedest for a submission. Will he be able to pull it off??? Only time will tell. I think Mir will end this fight with his favorite submission…leg lock. The way he will get that submission is from getting knocked on his ass by a Carwin right hook to the jaw.

Under-Card Fight

These are two other big names in the UFC. One thing they both have in common is that they both got there asses handed to them by GSP. They are currently on the road back to getting another title shot.

Fighter Analysis
Jon Fitch

Jon Fitch is a hell of a fighter and can take some punishment in the ring and still comes full force. With a record of 24-3 he has one of the best records in his division. Out of 12 fights with the UFC he has only lost once and that was to GSP. He already has one win over Alves and that was a TKO in the second round of Fight Night 5 back in 06’.

Fighter Analysis
Thiago Alves

You must login or register to view this content.

Thiago Alves is hungry for some revenge after taking a loss to GSP for the title back at UFC 100. His record stands at 22-5 but he is only 26 and has a long while to go. Some showcase wins for him include, Josh Koshcheck, Matt Hughes and Karo Parisyan.

Prediction

I see this one playing out just like there previous fight. Fitch just showed that he had superior skill and flat out beat the snot out of Alves. This will end in the 3rd round due to ref stoppage (TKO)
