Like any fan of Band of Brothers, I was eagerly anticipating for the premiere of The Pacific. What was even more exciting was that this chapter of WWII was finally going to get some proper attention, and we're not talking about the ridiculous movie that is Pearl Harbor, or the politically correct, Hollywood BS that is Letters from Iwo Jima. Quite frankly, most of the past stories told on screen about the battles in The Pacific and with Imperial Japan have all been pretty awful in my opinion. Hollywood and mainstream America has done to death with the war against the Nazis to the point where the masses are completely in the dark about the other battles of WWII. Although, it's only been one episode, but I hope as the series goes on the masses are not only entertained but also educated about this part in history of the second World War; barring of course the rest of the series is about as accurate a depiction of history as Michael Bay's Pearl Harbor.

As for the first episode, it is what it is with all first episodes in a series. We get brief backgrounds of all the central characters and enough time is spent on them without taking the attention away from the main attraction, THE battles of The Pacific. So right away you see the marines shipped off and on the beaches and jungles of Guadalcanal. Tension and intrigue are built immediately just on the sole reactions of the soldiers when they land on this foreign island in the middle of the vast ocean that surrounds it.

My only complaint with this first episode would be the editing. For instance, in one scene we have soldiers marching in the jungles then boom... all of a sudden they're resting and chatting in their foxholes. There were a few other instances where the scene transitions were also below par for a production of this caliber. Hopefully as the series progresses and other directors are at the helm, there won't be these kind of issues.
