To and fro the island.
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); As a heavy follower of politics, and yes at the age of 15, I am beginning to get quite a bit of ambition and opinions on things of my own.

Primarily, I am beginning to wonder if political parties are becoming more of a negative (at least in the United States) in which less gets done, as opposed to the reason political parties likely exist, in which groups of people can agree and discuss matters in order to form the best opinions and facts regarding the matter at hand.

Here in the United States, however, the quality of both the Republican and Democratic party has become ridiculous. Sometimes, I honestly find it hard to believe that politics consists of adults, and not of children.

Republicans calling Democrats crazy, and Democrats trying to get control of Congress in hope to get the variety of bills they want to be passed, passed.

As a democrat, of course my feelings of the democrats are brighter than that towards the Republicans, but that does not go to imply I think they are doing the right things.

The inability of the two (primary) political parties is resulting in the lack of anything getting done, when there are various things I believe do need to be decided upon.

Wall Street Reform, Health Care Reform, Energy Reform, Immigration Reform are all things citizens like myself are waiting to hear more about, while the two parties bicker at one another.

What do you think? Are political parties becoming the downfall of progress and productivity in the United States, or do you still think that they are for the best of decision making and are still vital to getting things done?

Republicans try anything to make the Democrats look bad instead of helping the country, and vice versa.

I am a Republican myself, but they need to back off on the Christian bullshit that has corrupted them.

Political parties help people "assemble" with other people with relatively similar political views, and, in that sense, they are good and could be considered necessary. If there were no parties that were on opposite sides of the political spectrum, many less intelligent people would have a hard time deciding which candidates would share views with them.

Also, without political parties, the electoral process would be more complicated. Since a 2-party system is favored by the US's electoral process, without major parties different parties would rise in power in different parts of the country, making it hard to have a consensus countrywide on who should lead.

A negative aspect arising from political parties is the fact that they cause many negative generalizations and stereotypes, such as conservatives being racist, redneck religious fanatics and liberals being poor and "baby-killers".

While I think there are credible points to a party system, I am of the opinion the our current 2 party system is greatly flawed. Also I don't really believe that either party is all that different nor really affect a lot of things in our country. The major changes that occur are due to people getting together and voicing in unison a need for change in the systems inner workings. Slowly one party or another will take up the cause to appease the public and gain support.

Wasn't it Jefferson who believed that the government should be overt thrown ever so often to keep it in check?

I think that was actually Madison who said that in Federalist 51, but he said that it could be overthrown if it oversteps its boundaries and starts infringing on individuals' rights, not just for the sake of it, but Jefferson may have said it as well, I'm not sure Smile

I suppose I should elaborate on exactly what I mean as necessary, as I realize the answer to my current question is just about always "necessary".

While I think political parties are always going to be "necessary" in a sense, it seems to me like the manner between the two parties is becoming more and more immature.

For instance, Barrack Obama is attempting to push Financial Reform through legislation, but cannot do so until Congress grants that permission. Of course, they still have to determine whether or not they think that that is even necessary to be reformed. Before that, on the other hand, they still have to agree to even debate the matter.

Hopefully reading the above paragraph will give you the same reaction. To me, it just seems inefficient the way things are being done, and that there needs to be less arguing over whether or not to debate something, and to actually debate the matters, and make progress!
