(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); So do you think time travel is possible? I'd like to know you're theories why or why not, not just a simple yes or no answer. Let's get a debate going, not a questionnaire...

Into the future: Yes, special relativity allows it. If you travel near the speed of light, time slows down for you while it continues at its regular rate for everyone else.

Into the past: No. The only way I can think of would be a wormhole, and those would require about the energy of an entire star to produce. They would also produce paradoxes like the grandfather paradox, and feedback would cause them to be destroyed before they could be put to any use.

Now for us to wait for the noobs who have no idea what they're on about...

Haha that's exactly what I was about to say. Did you watch the Stephen Hawking commentary on time travel on discovery?

I recorded it but I haven't found the time to watch it yet. I watched the episode on aliens though Smile.

I think it's possible in the future, since we do not have the technology. But as stated by elfmotat, it would be impossible for you to travel back in time, but possibly into the future.

Great minds ay lads... I want to see the people who haven't got a clue try and argue this. It boggles the mind of the most intelligent of us, so noobs trying to answer this should be funny.

Im not sure about that quite yet, but they have been teleporting small molecules, which is a start.

I got board once and spent time on Wikipedia reading about special relativity and such and found out that time travel is in fact already possible but it's not really time travel in the conventional way. Anyway the closer you travel to the speed of light the slower time moves around you so if you leave earth and travel at the speed of light for 10 years and a friend who is exactly the same age as you stays on earth when you return your friend will have aged by 10 years but you will not have aged as much as they have. I'm not sure of the specifics because no one has ever done this but theoretically you will have time travelled in a sort of way or slowed down the effects of time on yourself. Also gravity effects time if you are on a planet with an extremely high gravity time will go slower there.

Conventional time travel surely if it would have been invented someone would have came back in time and told us about it but then what happens if you travel to a different dimension when you time travel one where your actions will not effect the time you come from for instance if you went back in time and killed you grandfather before you were born, if our dimension are linked then this action would not be possible because in killing your grandfather you would kill yourself but in doing that how could your grandfather have been killed in the first place, the only way you could kill your grandfather and survive would be if when you time travel you go to another dimension and this could explain why no time travellers have ever come to our time and that could be because they go to another dimension.

But I would like to believe conventional time travel would one day be possible but if it is invented then it would be the most dangerous invention In the history of our world and it would probably become something like a closely guarded government secret that nobody on earth except for a select few people would know about.

We ask the makers of Star Trek to hand over the ship or just interrrogate Patrick Stewart until he reveals. Happy, jokes.
