Positives:

  • Place of religious worship.
  • Also serves as a community center (gym, pool, theater, etc.)
  • Shows America is religiously tolerant.

Negatives

  • Near the site of 9/11.
  • Can be seen as a "flag" declaring the Muslims are proud of what they did.
  • It may cause people longer to forget about 9/11.

Discuss.

That would be a downright retarded idea. Perception of Muslims would change from some being terrorists to open support of terrorism. Many people would take that the wrong way, and obviously the ones being intolerant to begin with were the radicals that crashed int the twin towers.

Yeah why not muslims deserve the right to worship their make believe religion just like
everyone else.

So what about 911 its not like the usa didn't deserve it you act like egotistical bullies to
every other country and you don't expect things like that to happen?

But seriously to stop a religion from building a place of worship because a few people from
that group did something shows a very narrow frame of mind.

America commits acts of terror everyday in other countries saying their helping them.
lmfao ever watch a video from someone living in these countries? They do not want your help
and they all have innocents your soldiers have killed.

I honestly wonder everyday how america has not pissed anyone off enough just to nuke it already
like seriously not one other country likes you, that should tell you something.

osama is seen as a hero in many countries and not as a terrorist.

He was not trying to conquer america but teach it a lesson, I feel sorry for american innocents lost
but I also feel for their innocents.

Don't hate them hate the government & the way it promotes your country because if america wasn't an egotistical bully 911 wouldn't have happened.

let them build their church and show them your not all war hungry bigots who wish to control the world.

Those innocent people in the buildings died in the name of Islam, now a building to support in a way only 2 blocks away?

And it's gonna be there before there's even a memorial....

Would you put a statue of Hitler near Auschwitz? It's basically a symbol that Islam has conquered through terrorism.

We deserved to have thousands of innocent people slaughtered? I know people who died that day, and chances are you probably don't. Sure you can say that, sitting comfortably from your chair, but I doubt you'd have the balls to say that in front of a victim's family member.

Only a small minority of Nazi Party members killed people - most were simply in it for economic reasons - yet I doubt you would condone a Nazi Party branch being constructed two blocks from a concentration camp.

This has what to do with what? First of all, if you think that most Americans like our presence in the Middle-East, then you're just ignorant. Regardless, are you saying that innocent Americans should be slaughtered because of our government's actions? An eye for an eye just leaves everyone blind.

Anti-American bigotry FTW!!! Grouping all Americans together as the same is the same logic that got 6 million Jews murdered. Are you starting to see a recurring theme yet?

But he IS a terrorist... by definition. He uses tactics of fear to persuade people - terrorism.

Yes, now it's our fault it happened. That's the biggest scapegoat I've ever heard. Clearly there was a direct line from our government promoting its ideals in other countries and the slaughter of thousands.

It's not about their religion, it's the fact that it's symbol of the ideology that demolished both the WTC and the building where the mosque is supposed to be built - in a similar fashion that a US embassy in the middle of, say, Hiroshima would be entirely disrespectful. The point is that it looks like they are marking their territory.
