Unless you've been living under a rock for the past few weeks, you'll know that British Petroleum recently unleashed a monster into the Gulf Coast, that being the oil leak. Several respectable sources accuse BP of not following regulations. I realize it's kind of difficult to pick another side to this (considering you'd have to be an idiot to think that BP is doing the best they can to cover up the leak), but I just wanted to see some discussion on it. That being said... go!

Anyone think this is Britain getting it's own back on the USA.... Sorry, I couldn't help myself.

To and fro the island.
The British Petroleum ordeal is quite frankly a disaster. It has already been declared the worst environmental disaster of this sort in the history of the United States. It simply goes to show, whether you support off shore oil drilling or not, that we are entering something that we're not completely sure about. Off shore oil drilling may not be bad altogether, but I don't think the United States really knows enough about it quite yet to be doing it with such ease. We've seen what happens if something goes wrong with things like this, and it makes me wonder if there were people higher up that realized we were going into this wearing almost as much as a blindfold.

The thing that really irritates me about this is that people continue to point fingers at each other. Plug the damn hole! Honestly, we are destroying the economy and the environment, and the possible companies behind it point fingers at one another in attempt to cut costs, one of the primary reasons this entire ordeal has occurred.

British Petroleum is to blame, and the government is to blame for not noticing it sooner. This just goes to show that oil is becoming more and more of a risky endeavor, and signs that we need to increase our search for another fully reliable fuel source that can replace oil.

Sorry for the rant, but this entire subject just irritates me.

Do a barrel roll!
If you want this company to go out of business and suffer, it will sadly not suffer if it goes out. They will sell the company to someone like Shell, and they will not loose any of their money, their executives will transfer to Shell, etc.

I agree with Schaffin, I also don't get how after all these years BP had never thought of a plan in case something like this did happened, that's alot of irresponsibility on their part.

I don't know if the fact it's still not plugged is depressing or hilarious.

I can see where some people would say it is 'hilarious', in the sense that it seems people are running around without a clue as to what they're doing, but if you take time to think about what it is actually doing, it isn't hilarious in any way. The American economy, that was beginning to enter a state of recovery, is now likely to go back into a recession, seeing as to how the economies in the South-Eastern states is, and will continue to be ruined. The spill is also obliterating the environment, and permanently damaging our eco-system.

It is hilarious from afar, yes, but close up you'll realize how terrible this incident really is. This isn't something that, when plugged, is going to simply go away. This is something that is going to be in the back of our heads for years, maybe even decades to come, considering truly how long it is going to take to clean all of this up. That's to assume that they are eventually going to find a way to plug the hole before the well simply dries out.

I realize that it's just that BP is simply acting like it's something that will fix itself and not like a responsible company. It's also surprising how no one has been able to force them to do something quickly.

However you're right it is something that's gonna screw up both the economy and the ecosystem and they're not in need of something like this right now.

The government needs to intervene, and further regulate off-shore drilling afterwards.
