(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); People say it all the time like it's nothing. People say, "I love you!" to strangers, to acquaintances, to casual friends. Do you use it casually? And if so, does it mean anything at all when you say it to your partner?

My girlfriend refuses to say it to me because she says she has "devalued" the word so much. In our society, has it been generally devalued?

What do you guys think?

You're right, those are just words now.

But is there anything in this world as pure and true as love? People have forgotten the meaning of love. It's become a relative term, like happiness. Some associate love with marriage, but I don't see the connection. Just because you are married doesn't mean you're in love.

How many people can honestly say they know what true love is? Many cannot. They think they know what love is, when in reality, they love (like) how a person makes them feel. That's not love.

What does it mean to love-correction, to BE in love? People throw around the term "I love you" so much, it's lost its meaning. What can be said in its place?

Absolutely nothing. So many people have devalued a word that meant so very much to mean so very little, and there's no compensation for it.
So the next time someone says 'I love you' you have to determine whether they're just saying it to waste oxygen, or whether they truly mean it. This doesn't mean that we, as lovers and friends, can't use it at all. I understand what your gf means, but I still say it to my bf. Only I show him that I mean it.
But, to truly love someone, you have the ability to tell them how much you care without ever even opening your mouth.

Not entirely, as explained before 'Love' has multiple meanings, but in your case if you told your girlfriend that you love her, im sure she would understand that you have very strong feelings for her and theres only one word that can some it all up.

To and fro the island.
As elfmotat stated, they are all just words. Love can be used in a variety of ways, all meaning obviously different things. I really don't think we need a new word for "true love", because I believe that the way you love someone is expressed, as opposed to simply stated. If you love someone in one way, it will be expressed that way.

There is no need to create another word because of that simple fact. If you "truly love" someone, it will be expressed through the way you act towards that person, and your intentions and hope for your future with that person.

God Is love.Love Can Be abstract and concrete but without God,there is no love.God showed his love to us by giving us his so to die on the cross for us.That was the ultimate picture of love. Now we can accept Jesus into our hearts and go to heaven. The world has devalued the meaning of it.
