(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); People say it all the time like it's nothing. People say, "I love you!" to strangers, to acquaintances, to casual friends. Do you use it casually? And if so, does it mean anything at all when you say it to your partner?

My girlfriend refuses to say it to me because she says she has "devalued" the word so much. In our society, has it been generally devalued?

What do you guys think?

You're right, those are just words now.

But is there anything in this world as pure and true as love? People have forgotten the meaning of love. It's become a relative term, like happiness. Some associate love with marriage, but I don't see the connection. Just because you are married doesn't mean you're in love.

How many people can honestly say they know what true love is? Many cannot. They think they know what love is, when in reality, they love (like) how a person makes them feel. That's not love.

What does it mean to love-correction, to BE in love? People throw around the term "I love you" so much, it's lost its meaning. What can be said in its place?

Absolutely nothing. So many people have devalued a word that meant so very much to mean so very little, and there's no compensation for it.
So the next time someone says 'I love you' you have to determine whether they're just saying it to waste oxygen, or whether they truly mean it. This doesn't mean that we, as lovers and friends, can't use it at all. I understand what your gf means, but I still say it to my bf. Only I show him that I mean it.
But, to truly love someone, you have the ability to tell them how much you care without ever even opening your mouth.

I thought everyone was aware of what the meaning of love is. Oh well, I'll spell it out for you!

L is for the way you look at me
O is for the only one I see
V is very, very extraordinary
E is even more than anyone that you adore

Everyone has their own definition of love, I tell my girlfriend it pretty much every day, multiple times. Why? I have strong feelings for her, stronger than anyone or anything I've had before her and I believe it's love, hence why I use it. I do agree however that the word is just thrown around like nothing, and the people who throw the word around are usually the people who celebrate Valentine's Day. If you're truly in love, it should be Valentine's Day everyday.

Love is a word that is all... The emotion we portray from saying it is what matters.... I can run up to someone I do not even know and say I love them but it has no meaning, where as if I walked up to my significant other and said it well then there is a different story... Love it seems has disappeared nowadays, You may find it around but most of it is fake.... Love is supposed to be forever, then why do we have divorces? Why when you tell your girlfriend you love her and then later on break up with her? Was there any love truly there at all? Or were you just saying that? But back on point Love the word has no meaning, but the feeling of love does... and you portray through you and you know when you are in it....

They're all just words, and love has always had multiple definitions: for example, I love steak, I love my family members, and I love my wife are all different concepts applied to the same word. I think it was the Romans who had multiple words that meant love for that very reason.
