Post: Video game companies are going to start charging to play their games online after one

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Hey everyone.

I'm sorry if this is a repost, but I didn't see anything and please be kind to just mod alert it.

I work at GameStop and saw a memo today. Apparently, all EA and I think Ubisoft games that have online multi-player modes are going to come with a one-time code that are tied to your gamer tag or PSN account to play online. If you buy one of these games used from GameStop or off a friend for example, you could pay as much as $20 to jump in on the online access even after you already paid for a used copy. The cheapest I saw was $5 They're essentially making it like PC games with serial numbers.

I personally think this is ridiculous, but they're trying to make money off used sales I guess. It makes sense from a business standpoint, but I can't stand that you can't bring a game over to your friend's house unless you want to import your gamer tag or PSN name while you're there.

UFC 2010 is the first game to introduce this. What do you guys think?

A company as big as EA should not be charging. They just lost a customer.

Games used to be $50 for Xbox and PS2, then it jumped to $60 which is rediculous and a HUGE profit for the gaming industry. Now they want to add these charges? That would be pathetic. How much more proftis do you need? The video game industry is one of the most successful industries around right now.

There would be nearly no point in buying used anymore if they did this. Plus selling back they rip you off by giving you about 45% of what the game is being sold for by them. And then selling it to gain an avg. of a 55% profit. Just even hearing this labels these companies as GREEDY!

PLUS, Computer games start at about $20 less for all new releases compared to Console Games. (Plus 99% of the time DLC is FREE for Computer Games!) This is done because you can only have it installed on 1 computer (Or more depending on the disc), with copyright inscription laws. Unless you hack it perfectly serial codes are just in place to prevent pirating of games.

Daddy's home.
I heard about this, only about EA doing it on sports games. Not heard about Ubisoft though. It's the most stupid thing they can ever do. Is it not bad enough you pay for your console, then your Xbox live subscription AND THEN the game, all of which can cost about £200+ to start of with. Games are at a high price anyway. £40-£50 depending on where you shop for a game. Even if you bought it at £30 pre-owned you would still have to pay for the online. At one game shop in my town, MW2 Pre owned was about £38, brand new £40. If the game shops want to stay in business, they will have to lower the price of used games, meaning you would get LESS money than you should. I and many other people can't afford to pay £40 for every game they want to play online. No way.
