(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); I've never seen the point of the British monarchy in the modern day. I don't believe that someone should be born into power, inherit acres of land and huge stately homes, be given millions of pounds each year by taxpayers purely by accident of birth.

What do the monarchy and other members of the royal family actually do apart from opening things, reading and writing letters, shaking people's hands and spending taxpayer's money on fancy trips all over the world? And in the case of prince Harry and William; spending lots of money, wasting army resources and causing a lot of trouble.

I realise that a majority of the British population are very patriotic and so understandably the queen will be very popular and I don't have a problem with the fact that the royal family are effectively Germans (although it does odd that a lot of racist people within the UK have no problem with the fact that the Queen is effectively German). But the monarchy is only symbolic and has no actual power or point, I do not believe that people should be born into a position where they are "better than everyone else" and inherit power, all politicians have to work from the bottom to get where they are, do you think any of the royal family have ever lifted a finger to get where they are? I frankly think the royal family are just wasting taxpayers money and that a majority of the British general public are sheep .

So, to queen or not to queen? That is the question.

Daddy's home.
In my opinion, we either have a Queen that has power, such as back in the Tudor days, or we have a President. Like you have already mentioned, the Queen does **** all. She "promotes" Britain by going to meet other countries president or whatever they have, but apart from that, I believe she doesn't do anything else. I read in the paper not too long ago that she wants MORE money than what she is getting. She gets (I think it was, don't hold me too it) £14million a year, and she still wants more. Parliament is ****ed anyway. It takes too long to pass a law. Then it has to go to be approved by the Queen, of which, by the way, if she denies the law, then it is most likely going to be the end of the monarchy. I forgot why, but that's what a teacher told me last year. So again, that proves the fact she has no power if she HAS to pass a law. The monarchs are joke. They are all this and that, for what you said, "accidental birth". They are all stuck up their own arses.

I'm sure that there can be a referendum on whether the monarchy should be abolished which the queen would have no input on. However, the country as a whole would never vote the queen out, i'm all up for having a President, which would be the current prime minister (although I wouldn't be too happy on Cameron having the role Smile)

I actually brought this up at school once, but my classmates were too stupid to comprehend what I was saying. When I asked "why the hell is she there and not someone that worked for their position" the best they could come up with was either "she's special" or "that's just how it is".
I don't really think any of us are happy with it, but for some reason we just don't like to talk ill of the matter.

Either way the fact she's asking for more money especially when the country is in huge debt is absurd; what does she want now? I think an extra £50 is enough to impact a lot of our lives right now as we're riddled with money worries yet I assume she wants on-top of the £14-million another 7-digit-number? Appalling.

well which ever one did happen (if it did) I berlive that the law system in the UK needs to be rethought over big time, lets face it people it in shambles, at least the yanks have a proper law system (somthing what they beat us on for once Happy) but I think if it did become a republic any nut case could run. (Also I heard the queen is incest)

In the words of Jeremy Clarkson "Some people are born lucky and others are not. Anyone who tries to fight this is on a road that leads to communism"

The Monarchy are ,as you said, symbolic. They are a tradition and I don't think we should be too hasty to remove them. Prince Harry after all is going to play a leading role with the armed forces. Your point about taxes is also valid, they spend a lot of money going all round the world. However they DO do a lot of charity work. They raise a lot of money for good causes. You will now say "Yeah great, but does this cover the taxes?" It doesn't matter. The Monarchy are tradition. They are a symbol of Englands/Britains past achievements and for that reason alone I think they should stay.

However i dont think they should be given any more power.
